Hobart is the state capital and most populous city of the Australian island state of Tasmania, founded in 1803 as a penal colony. Hobart is Australia's second oldest capital city after Sydney. When in Hobart, make sure you visit Salamanca Place where you will find 19th-century waterfront warehouses dating back to the early 1800's whaling days. Today, trendy cafes, restaurants, galleries and art studios are located in Salamanca Place making it the ideal place to explore or enjoy alfresco dining.
